Hamas' new Political Bureau Chief Khalil al-Hayye announced that they will continue cooperation with Egypt, Qatar and Turkey to secure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Hayye made this statement during a phone call with Egyptian General Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad. Rashad congratulated Hayye on his election to the Hamas leadership.
According to a statement from Hamas, Hayye thanked Rashad and said that their historic relations with Egypt will continue. He also expressed appreciation for Egypt's role, particularly in consolidating the ceasefire and completing the second-phase negotiations.
He said: 'As Hamas, we will continue working with our brothers in Egypt, Qatar and Turkey to end the suffering of our Palestinian people in Gaza, secure Israel's withdrawal and reconstruction.'

Ceasefire violations and the human cost
In Gaza, the two-phase ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, and sponsored by the US, which came into force on October 10, 2025, has been subject to violations by Israel through bombardment and gunfire.
According to Gaza's Health Ministry, as of Monday, 1,158 Palestinians were killed and 3,756 wounded as a result of these violations.
Mediation efforts in Cairo
On June 8, 2026, a meeting was held in Cairo with the participation of mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, and Palestinian groups. The meeting discussed a roadmap for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and advancing the second-phase negotiations.
Hamas had announced hours earlier that it chose Khalil al-Hayye as the movement's political bureau chief, replacing Yahya Sinwar, who was killed in an October 2024 clash with Israeli forces in the city of Rafah.
