Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni outlined key goals to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries during his official visit to Pakistan. Momeni announced that the annual trade volume between Iran and Pakistan is planned to be increased from the current $3 billion to $10 billion.
Minister Momeni stated that the main purpose of the visit was to strengthen relations and follow up on agreements reached during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's recent visit to Pakistan. The delegation included officials from the ministries of oil, agriculture, roads, and urban development.
Emphasizing that border capacity must be significantly increased to reach the $10 billion trade target, Momeni said an average of 2,000 trucks or containers need to cross daily. Momeni noted that currently only 20 percent of this capacity is used, and said, 'Creating the necessary conditions on both sides of the border will be the main agenda item of the talks during this visit.'
The Iranian minister added that regional developments will also be discussed in the meetings. Pakistan has taken on the role of chief mediator in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US.
