As fighting continues in Yemen, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group had targeted two locations in Saudi Arabia. Saree said attacks had been carried out against a Saudi Aramco facility in Yanbu and Khamis Mushait Air Base.
Saree said the attacks involved numerous ballistic missiles and drones, claiming that the Saudi Aramco facility had been directly hit. He also claimed that Khamis Mushait Air Base had been targeted in a series of missile attacks.
Saree also claimed that Saudi Arabia had carried out more than 450 airstrikes on Yemeni territory, saying the Houthis would continue their attacks on areas deep inside the country and would keep retaliating. Saudi Arabia made no statement on the attack claims.
The Houthi military spokesman also announced that same day that the group had shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet. Saudi Arabia made no statement on that claim either.
The balance of power in Yemen’s conflict
The fighting, which has escalated again in Yemen since July, has changed the balance of power on the ground. After securing control of the entire Hodeidah governorate, the Houthis advanced into western Taiz governorate.
The Houthis took control of several cities on the Red Sea coast, including Mocha, as well as routes leading to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
After Mocha, the Hanish Islands, Mayyun Island and the Zubab area near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait also came under Houthi control, significantly changing the situation in the conflict zone.
