Hundreds of people taking part in a pro-Palestinian march in Athens called on the Greek government to end its military and diplomatic cooperation with Israel.
Demonstrators gathered at Monastiraki Square on Sunday and marched toward Syntagma Square. The call for the protest was made by the Palestinian community in Greece, the Stop the War – Solidarity with Palestine alliance, the Walk for Gaza – Greece initiative, and left-wing parties and groups.
Chants including “Freedom for Palestine” and “Solidarity with Palestine, no to cooperation with Israel” were heard during the demonstration. Participants called on the government to end its ongoing military and diplomatic cooperation with Israel.
Warning to Israeli citizens
Israel’s Foreign Ministry also issued a security warning to its citizens in Greece before the demonstrations. The ministry urged Israelis to stay away from protest sites and remain vigilant, and called on them not to carry symbols that could reveal their Israeli or Jewish identity.
