After the US Central Command announced that its strikes on targets in Iran had been completed, Iran and US forces in the region carried out attacks against each other. Explosions were heard on Iran's southern Qeshm Island and in Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Asaluyeh, Chabahar and Konarak.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had shot down a US MQ-9 drone. Iran's General Staff warned that the US military would face heavier losses if it continued its attacks.
Eleven people were killed in attacks in southern Iran
Hormozgan Deputy Governor Ahmad Nafisi announced that the United States had struck a home in Kuheştek, a city in Sirik County where a wedding ceremony was being held. Nafisi said that at least four people were killed and 68 wounded in the attack, according to initial assessments.
Seven people were also killed and eight wounded in the Khuzestan region. Jiroft Airport in Kerman Province was targeted.
CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins said the US military was aware of reports concerning the home in Kuheştek. Hawkins maintained that the US military had not targeted civilians.
Iran says it targeted US forces in four countries
The Iranian military announced that it had carried out missile and drone attacks on US bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also announced that Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait had been targeted with missiles and drones.
The Revolutionary Guard claimed that several US drones were destroyed during the attack. The statement said the targets included the US commander's headquarters and accommodation area, a drone hangar and the launch ramps where the aircraft were deployed.
The Jordanian military announced that it had intercepted 10 of the 13 ballistic missiles that entered its airspace, while three missiles fell in uninhabited areas. Several airlines canceled flights to Jordan.
Kuwaiti authorities warned the public about attacks launched from Iran with drones and missiles and said that air defense systems had been activated. Bahrain also announced that drones sent from Iran had been intercepted by air defense systems.
The Israeli military announced that sirens sounded in some areas in the north of the country and interceptor missiles were fired because of drones launched from Lebanon.
Trump rejects claims of negotiations with Iran
US President Donald Trump denied claims that Washington was trying to bring Iran to the negotiating table. Trump said it did not matter to the United States whether Iran signed an agreement that it considered worthless.
Trump argued that the United States had a far stronger strategic position and said the Strait of Hormuz was almost entirely under control. Trump claimed that Iran's economy was in a process of collapse and used language calling on the Iranian people to fight.
Claim of attacks on Iranian tankers
Unnamed US officials claimed that the US military had attacked two Iranian tankers. The officials argued that the attacks were carried out under a new policy intended to deter Iran from targeting tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The same officials claimed that tankers belonging to the Iranian government had anchored off the Iranian coast near the northern limit of the US naval blockade and that US drones had struck the tankers' engine rooms with missiles. They said US targets included air defense facilities, radar systems, naval assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities.
The officials also claimed that half of Iran's attacks with approximately 25 ballistic missiles reached Jordanian airspace, that 10 missiles were intercepted and that three fell without causing casualties or property damage. They said Iran had sent approximately two dozen drones toward US bases in Bahrain and two drones toward US bases in Erbil, Iraq, and that the aircraft had been engaged.
