Ali Mohammadi, deputy head of the Political Affairs Department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, said interventions against ships in the Strait of Hormuz would continue if deemed necessary.
According to Mohammadi's statement, Iranian forces targeted 2 to 5 ships every day between August 20 and 30 that were said to have attempted to pass through the strait without authorization. He made the remarks while Iran was assessing the ships it said had been targeted.
The Iranian official said his country was maintaining control over the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Mohammadi argued that U.S. attacks in the region could not weaken Iran's control over the strait.
