As mediation initiatives continue regarding the diplomatic process between Iran and the US, Tehran has called for the reimplementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Iranian Interior Ministry spokesperson Ali Zeynivend responded to a question about Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s visit to Iran at a press conference in Tehran. Zeynivend said that, alongside Pakistan’s mediation role, international diplomatic efforts were also continuing intensively.
Iran calls for return to memorandum
Zeynivend said many countries were working to resolve the issues between Iran and the US and bring the parties back to an agreement. He said these initiatives aimed to restore the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed between Iran and the US on June 17 under Pakistan’s mediation but never implemented.
The Iranian spokesperson urged the US to comply with the memorandum’s provisions. Zeynivend said the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding represented a high-level decision for Iran and had been approved by the leadership, calling on the other party to return to the agreement.
Naqvi’s visit to Tehran
Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is expected to travel to Tehran again within a few days. The visit is expected to take place as part of Pakistan’s mediation efforts in the diplomatic process between Iran and the US.
