Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran would respond “decisively” to the strikes after a home in Sirik district was targeted. Iranian authorities said the attack targeted a house where a wedding was being held.
Baghaei said more than 50 men, women and children were killed or injured in the incident. The spokesman argued that the attack was part of a wider wave of strikes covering Minab, Lamerd, Qeshm and other areas.
Iran criticizes international organizations
The Iranian spokesman criticized governments and international organizations that remained silent in the face of the strikes or tried to justify them. Baghaei said silence did not amount to neutrality and warned that those maintaining this position would not be able to evade the consequences in the future.
Statements on the strikes in Iran
US Central Command announced that strikes had been carried out against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iranian territory. Explosions were heard on Qeshm Island, in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar and Konarak after the announcement.
Jiroft Airport in Kerman province was also targeted. Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan, had said in an initial assessment that at least four people were killed and 50 were wounded in the attack on the area where the wedding was being held.
Statements about the number of casualties differed, while the Iranian side said the incident involved a home containing civilians and a wedding ceremony.
