As attacks intensified in the Gaza Strip, Hamas called on mediators and cease-fire guarantors to exert maximum pressure on the Israeli government. The group urged immediate action to preserve the cease-fire agreement and fulfill its obligations.
Hamas contacted the mediators and Nikolay Mladenov, the representative of the Board of Peace in Gaza, and demanded an end to the attacks. The group said the agreement must be respected and the implementation of its obligations must be completed.
Attacks and casualties in al-Katiba
Three Palestinians were killed and more than 20 people, including children, were injured in intense airstrikes carried out Tuesday in the al-Katiba area west of Gaza City.
Witnesses said more than 16 attacks were carried out in less than 30 minutes. The attacks were accompanied by heavy gunfire, as well as flights by warplanes and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Ismail al-Thawabta, director-general of the Gaza government media office, said a unit affiliated with the Israeli special forces had attempted to conduct a security operation inside the city and that the Israeli army provided air support after the unit was detected. Al-Thawabta said Palestinians were killed and injured during the operation, and that some members of the special forces were also killed.
Conflicting statements from Israel and Hamas
The Israeli army said it had struck “a number of targets” in Gaza City to eliminate threats against its forces. The army said none of its soldiers were injured during the attacks.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed that a senior Hamas leader whose identity he did not disclose had been detained.
Hamas argued that Israel’s continued attacks aimed to weaken the cease-fire and undermine efforts to complete the implementation of the agreement. The group claimed the attacks sought to create conditions for the continuation of the war in Gaza.
Warning of the consequences of allowing the attacks to continue, Hamas called on the international community to adopt a clear and strong position condemning them. The group also said mediators and guarantors must act urgently to stop the escalation and prevent the region from being drawn into a wider conflict.
Area hosting displaced civilians
Al-Katiba, where large numbers of displaced Palestinians are concentrated, is home to the American Hospital, universities and commercial businesses. The attacks in the area caused panic among civilians living in tents.
Gaza casualty toll
The Gaza Health Ministry said Israel’s violations had continued despite the cease-fire that took effect on October 10, 2025. The ministry said 1,318 Palestinians had been killed and 4,375 people injured in these violations, adding that rescue teams had recovered hundreds of bodies from under the rubble.
According to ministry data, approximately 73,462 Palestinians have been killed and 174,509 people injured in Gaza since October 2023.
