Maj. Gen. Ali Abdullahi, chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, said the Strait of Hormuz was “completely closed” and under the control of Iran’s armed forces, rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims that the strategic waterway had been opened.
Abdullahi added: “Contrary to the U.S. president’s claim that the Strait of Hormuz is open, this strategic waterway is completely closed and under the control of Iran’s armed forces.”
Trump: We control Hormuz

Trump has repeatedly said the strait is open thanks to U.S. naval power. In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, he said: “We now control the Strait of Hormuz. They get nothing and we get everything,” claiming that trade through the strait had become greater than before the war because of the naval blockade of Iranian ports.
The U.S. Central Command says commercial shipping continues through the strait. However, data from independent vessel-tracking services shows that traffic remains far below pre-war levels, while several vessels came under attack inside the strait and in its vicinity this month.
Abdullahi also said that Iran would not allow U.S. warships to enter the Gulf “under any circumstances,” amid reports of U.S. and Israeli preparations for a new round of strikes on Iran.
