Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with the head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization, Alireza Rashidian, in the capital Tehran. The meeting discussed measures to improve services for Iranian pilgrims and visitors and to ensure the smooth running of this year's Arbaeen program.
Minister Araghchi stressed the importance of close coordination among all government agencies, particularly in meeting the travel and needs of Arbaeen pilgrims. He stated that Iran's diplomatic missions abroad are ready to provide full diplomatic and consular support to its citizens during the pilgrimage season.
Expanded Cooperation Between the Two Countries
Iran and Iraq have expanded bilateral cooperation to facilitate the Arbaeen pilgrimages, one of the world's largest religious gatherings. The two countries signed a series of agreements to ease the passage of pilgrims, including lifting visa restrictions, improving transportation and public services, strengthening medical and logistical support, and enhancing security at border crossings.
Arbaeen, which takes place every year with the participation of millions of Muslims, is held in the Iraqi city of Karbala to mark the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). This year's Arbaeen pilgrimages are expected to conclude with large mourning ceremonies in Karbala on August 4.
