Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei responded to CENTCOM spokesman Tim Hawkins, who said that the U.S. military does not target civilians, by recalling alleged attacks on wedding ceremonies in Afghanistan and Iraq.
In a post on his social media account, Baghaei alleged that the United States carried out attacks on wedding ceremonies in Afghanistan’s Kakarak in 2002, Iraq’s Mukaradeeb in 2004, and Afghanistan’s Deh Bala and Wech Baghtu regions in 2008.
The Iranian spokesman also said that the American-made series Homeland depicts an attack by U.S. forces on a wedding in Pakistan.
“The truth is so terrible that even American propaganda did not dare to make the claim Hawkins made today. This is not an ordinary story. The civilians are real. The victims are real,” Baghaei said.
Statements on the wedding venue in Sirik
Iran announced that the United States had targeted a wedding venue in the Kuhestek area of Sirik, in Hormozgan province, the previous day. According to Iran’s statement, at least four people, including a 4-year-old child, were killed and 68 people were injured.
CENTCOM spokesman Hawkins said in a statement on the attack that the U.S. military never targets civilians. Iran described the attack as a “war crime.”
Alleged attack on a school in Minab
Iranian authorities also announced that a primary school in the city of Minab, in Hormozgan province, had been hit on February 28. The authorities said 168 people were killed in the incident.
