Tensions between the U.S. and Iran
On February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched attacks against Iran, while Iran responded with attacks on Israel and American targets in the region. The sides reached an agreement on a ceasefire in April.
Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 concerning freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, but its implementation faltered because of disputes over the strait’s security.
The text also stated that the U.S. resumed attacks against Iran between July 8 and 24, and that Iran announced it had targeted American military facilities and equipment in some Arab countries.
