Tensions and ceasefire around Iran
Attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran began on February 28. Iran responded with attacks targeting Israel and American targets in the region, and a ceasefire agreement was reached in April.
Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz on June 18. However, disagreements over the strait’s security hindered the implementation of the memorandum.
The United States resumed its attacks against Iran between July 8 and 24. The authorities in Tehran also carried out attacks against targets they said housed American military facilities and equipment in Arab countries.
