The civilian nuclear agreement signed between Washington and Riyadh was submitted by US President Donald Trump to Congress for review under US law.
An unnamed US official claimed that the requirement for Saudi Arabia to normalize relations with Israel remains in place for the July 23 agreement to take effect.
Nuclear cooperation with Saudi Arabia
According to a statement issued by the US Department of Energy on July 23, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud signed a peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement known as the "123 Agreement."
The Energy Department also said that the agreement was accompanied by a bilateral safeguards agreement.
Trump's normalization condition
Trump had previously said that the civilian nuclear agreement signed with Saudi Arabia would depend on Riyadh joining the "Abraham Accords."
