Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced that an MQ-1-type unmanned aerial vehicle was detected and shot down by an Iranian air defense system over the Strait of Hormuz.
In a written statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the incident occurred in the airspace over the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. military has not yet issued a statement on the incident.
Mohibbi warns of a new attack
Hossein Mohibbi, spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, assessed the possibility of a new attack on Iran by the United States and Israel during a television program he attended.
Mohibbi said Iran’s defense and offensive capabilities would change significantly in the event of a new attack and stated that Iran would change the geography of the war. He also said weapons equipped with new capabilities would be used and that new targets that had not yet been attacked had been identified.
Iran says it is prepared for a prolonged war
Mohibbi said Iran was prepared for a prolonged war. Arguing that the war could consist of different stages and continue, Mohibbi said the Revolutionary Guards had already been prepared for war and were now even better prepared.
Revolutionary Guards say no contact has been established with the U.S.
Mohibbi said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had not established contact with the United States so far and stated that the armed forces were not involved in diplomacy. He noted that the military’s primary duty was to defend the country.
Mohibbi argued that U.S. hegemony in the region had ended and that Iran, not the United States, was shaping the new order. Linking the establishment of U.S. military bases in regional countries to perceptions of Iran’s high defense capacity, Mohibbi claimed that Iran had struck these bases and rendered them unusable.
