As tensions continued in southern Lebanon, the Israeli army carried out airstrikes in the area after announcing that two explosive unmanned aerial vehicles had been launched against its troops.
In a statement, the Israeli army claimed that Hezbollah sent two explosive UAVs at troops operating near the Ali al-Taher Ridge in the security zone during the night. One of the UAVs was shot down by the troops, while contact with the second aircraft was lost, the statement said. No Israeli soldiers were injured, according to the statement.
Nabatieh and the area around Tyre targeted
Two UAV strikes targeted the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa in Nabatieh province. An airstrike on the town of Arab Salim in the Iqlim al-Tuffah area of the same province left injuries reported.
Israeli forces, accompanied by tanks and military bulldozers, advanced west of the town of Mais al-Jabal in the Marjayoun district of Nabatieh province. Artillery fire hit homes in several towns in southern Lebanon.
Israeli warplanes also struck several buildings in the town of Mansouri earlier in the day. Explosions were heard in the city of Tyre and surrounding villages.
Israel-Lebanon tensions continue
The attacks came as tensions between Israel and Lebanon continued after a new wave of fighting began in March.
Following US-led diplomatic efforts, Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement in June. The agreement provides for the deployment of the Lebanese army in the area and the disarmament of armed groups in exchange for Israel’s gradual withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories.
