Jordanian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the Palestinian issue and regional developments during their talks in Cairo.
At a meeting held at Tahrir Palace on Sunday, the ministers also discussed bilateral relations and preparations for the 166th ordinary session of the Arab League Council at ministerial level. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
Palestine and the regional de-escalation agenda
According to a statement from Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, Safadi and Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in the region, regional tensions, efforts to restore calm and the Palestinian issue.
During their talks on August 2, the two ministers also said that dialogue and diplomacy should form the basis for achieving calm in the region. Safadi and Abdelatty warned about the consequences of Israeli practices in the West Bank and attacks on holy sites in Jerusalem, and called on the international community to safeguard regional security and stability.
Call for coordination among Arab countries
During a meeting in Amman in March, Safadi and Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination mechanisms and joint Arab efforts in response to regional crises and challenges.
The 166th ordinary session of the Arab League Council at ministerial level is expected to address the latest developments in the region, issues on the agendas of Arab countries and joint work files. Developments in the Palestinian territories are among the meeting’s priority topics.
Tunisia is expected to assume the chairmanship of the Arab League Council at ministerial level for the September 2026–March 2027 period as part of the meeting.
