The Jordanian army announced that eight missiles fired from Iran toward Jordanian airspace were successfully destroyed. The Jordanian Armed Forces said in a statement that the missiles originating from Iranian territory were neutralized.
Jordanian Government Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communication Mohammad al-Momani also confirmed the interception of the missiles. Al-Momani stressed that the Jordanian Armed Forces are fully prepared to confront any threat the country may face and have taken all necessary measures to ensure the security of the state and its citizens.
The minister called on all residents of Jordan, both citizens and foreigners, to follow the instructions of official authorities, obtain information only from official sources, and refrain from spreading unverified news.
Urgent instructions from the U.S. Embassy
The U.S. Embassy in Amman issued a warning, stating that missiles, rockets, and drones had been detected in Jordanian airspace. The embassy instructed all U.S. citizens in Jordan to immediately take shelter and remain indoors.
Military tensions in the region
These developments followed U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to strike Iran. The U.S. military began bombing areas of Iran near the Strait of Hormuz overnight.
In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had struck targets belonging to U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The Kuwaiti Armed Forces had earlier announced that three ballistic missiles, one cruise missile, and ten drones were detected and neutralized in the country's airspace, and that one person was injured in the incident.
The Bahraini army also reported that it had thwarted aerial attacks carried out by Iran.
