Iranian Parliament Speaker Kalibaf addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz in a video message posted on his social media account. Kalibaf said Iran’s armed forces have full control of the strait.
Claiming that the United States was trying to move some ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Kalibaf said these attempts had been met with intervention by Iran’s armed forces. He claimed that the latest US attacks on Iran were prompted by Iran’s use of force in the strait and said they had responded to the attacks forcefully.
Passage through the southern route will be blocked
Kalibaf claimed that the United States had assured ships they could pass through the Strait of Hormuz, but that the ships had come under attack. He said the United States was trying to use the strait’s southern route in violation of an agreement and announced that Iran would not allow such passages.
Kalibaf said at least 120 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz each day before the war, adding that the passage of one or two ships could not be compared with the period before the war.
Claims about Iran’s military capabilities
Claiming that Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz did not conflict with international law, Kalibaf said Iran had made 10 years’ worth of progress in the military sphere over the past 15 months.
Kalibaf said attacks targeting US bases in different countries after the ceasefire carried strategic significance. He said they had conveyed the message that Iran’s missile capabilities could not be prevented.
He described the naval blockade as an act of war
Kalibaf reiterated that a naval blockade amounted to military warfare and said the enemy aimed to launch protests inside Iran as part of hybrid warfare, simultaneously with terrorist acts and short-term military attacks.
Kalibaf said the policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran was to fulfill the terms of the agreement in line with the instructions of the country’s leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. He called on Iranian politicians to set their disputes aside.
Social cohesion is the most important social good that we should recommend to one another. By demonstrating our strength, we will make the enemy accept our reasoning, and we will never surrender militarily or politically.
