Maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and regional stability were at the center of diplomatic contacts between Kuwait, Iraq, Oman and Qatar.
Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Jaber Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah held separate phone calls with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi. Albusaidi also held a phone call with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
Call for regional coordination
The discussions covered efforts to strengthen regional security and stability, reduce tensions, and ensure the safe and free continuation of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Hussein and Albusaidi discussed the regional situation as well as the outcomes of talks held in Tehran by Omani and Iranian delegations. Understandings regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz were also raised during the discussion.
The two ministers also discussed issues awaiting resolution between Washington and Tehran, as well as U.S. sanctions expected to restrict economic and financial transactions with Iran. They also assessed the potential effects of these steps on regional developments.
The parties considered it important to hold emergency meetings with the participation of regional countries to manage developments and mitigate their potential effects.
They agreed to maintain cooperation and coordination between Baghdad and Muscat, develop joint initiatives, and invite other countries to participate in these initiatives. The two sides also agreed to continue communication and coordination that would contribute to preparing joint ideas and plans.
