The National March for Palestine in London on Saturday, Oct. 10, saw a striking moment when protesters on Westminster Bridge made way for a newly married couple to take souvenir photos with them, with Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament visible behind the pair.
Labour lawmaker John McDonnell, who addressed the rally, posted a photo of the couple and said they had wanted to express their support for the Palestinian people’s cause after seeing the march. Video of the moment spread widely.
About a quarter of a million marchers

Organizers estimated that about 250,000 people took part in the march, which was called by the Palestine Coalition and coincided with the third anniversary of the start of the war in Gaza. Police did not issue an independent estimate.
London’s Metropolitan Police had imposed conditions on the march, and live coverage reported that several people were detained during scuffles with officers. The march was part of a wave of solidarity events held in several European cities over the weekend, including Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
