Man smears red liquid on Israeli flag at Gothenburg Book Fair

A man smeared red liquid on an Israeli flag at the Sweden-Israel Friendship Association’s stand at the Gothenburg Book Fair and was removed by security guards and police.

A man threw red liquid on an Israeli flag at the Sweden-Israel Friendship Association’s stand at the Gothenburg Book Fair (Bokmässan) in Sweden on the afternoon of Saturday, September 26. According to Göteborgs-Posten, he spat the red liquid onto the flag.

He was removed from the venue by security guards and police. Police spokesperson Emelie Lundqvist said police had not received any report, adding: “We are stationed at the Book Fair. In accordance with the Police Act, we can refuse entry to or remove a person from a location.” Police gave no information about an arrest or suspected crime.

Footage from the scene showed the flag streaked with red as Swedish police officers stepped in among the crowd at the stand.
