New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani shared a table with Palestinian families on Wednesday evening at Hinds Hall by Ayat, a Palestinian restaurant in Manhattan, on the third anniversary of the events of Oct. 7, 2023.

Mamdani arrived from a Union Square ceremony held in memory of those killed in the attack. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered there chanted "traitor" at him, while the mayor listened silently to the speakers.
A statement on Gaza the same day

In a statement that day, Mamdani said more than 74,000 Palestinians, including more than 21,000 children, had been killed in Gaza, describing Israel’s war on the enclave as genocide and stressing that American taxpayers’ money was funding war crimes.
Mamdani, who took office in January 2026, is the first Muslim to lead New York City.
