Galatasaray drew 2-2 with Çorum in the opening match of the new Süper Lig season at Rams Park. The reigning champions, who took the field on Friday, avoided defeat with Victor Osimhen’s 90th-minute header.
Galatasaray largely controlled possession in the first half but failed to convert the chances they created. The opening 45 minutes therefore ended goalless.
Four goals in the second half
Galatasaray took the lead eight minutes into the second half. Running through on goal after Lucas Torreira’s pass behind the defense, Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen rounded the goalkeeper and fired the ball into the net with his right foot from a narrow angle.
Çorum equalized six minutes later through Jesus Ramirez’s strike from outside the penalty area. The visitors then took a 2-1 lead in the 61st minute when Alexandros Kaizerides scored with his left foot after a mistake by the Galatasaray defense.
Çorum continued with 10 men after Kaizerides was shown a red card in the 70th minute for stepping on Yunus Akgün’s foot. Galatasaray increased the pressure around Çorum’s penalty area after the visitors were reduced to 10 players.
The home side found the equalizer they were seeking in the 90th minute. Osimhen met Gabriel Sara’s corner with a header to make it 2-2.
Both teams begin with a point
Galatasaray began its campaign to retain the championship title with a point from its opening match. Çorum, competing in the Süper Lig for the first time, started the season with a valuable away draw.
