In Gaza, under the shadow of Israeli attacks, a glimmer of hope has been lit for Palestinian children. The 'Springs of Hope 2026' summer camps, implemented with Türkiye's support, have begun with the aim of providing a safe social environment for children in the region.
The opening of the camps, organized by the Gaza Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, took place at the Nuseirat Services Club in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp. The opening program was under the patronage of the Council's Deputy Secretary-General Abdusselam Heniye.
During the program, children gathered in front of a poster featuring a photo of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Turkish and Palestinian flags. Various activities were organized for the children carrying Turkish and Palestinian flags, including religious chants, Palestinian folk dance (dabke) performances, karate, and circus shows.
The camps aim to reach approximately 8,000 children. They aim to provide psychosocial support to children living in difficult conditions due to Israeli attacks and to support their development through cultural, sports, and educational activities.
Gassan Muhaysin, Head of the Public Relations Department at the Gaza Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, said, 'Despite the death and destruction left behind by Israel, we want to bring smiles to our children's faces.' Muhaysin reported that a total of 60 summer camps have been opened.
Camp supervisor Abdurrahman Tafiş stated that organizing these camps under the current conditions is 'a great challenge.' Tafiş noted that despite all difficulties, the camps will begin activities in the northern regions next week.
Ismail Ahmed al-Mufti, one of the children attending the camp, said, 'We have the right to be happy and to play. We thank the Turkish people who continue to stand by Gaza and its children.'
