The New York Times reported that the U.S. and Israeli militaries prepared plans to resume strikes on Iran after the U.S. midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
The plans include a short, intensive operation targeting energy facilities, nuclear sites, and Iran’s missile and drone stockpiles. Some U.S. planners believe a three-day campaign could inflict enough economic damage to push Tehran into nuclear negotiations.

The newspaper reported that U.S. and Israeli forces conducted exercises over Iraq to rehearse strike maneuvers, and that U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week to discuss potential attacks. U.S. military assets in the region are expected to be in place by early November.
President Donald Trump has not yet made a decision, having repeatedly postponed new strikes, including an operation that had been scheduled earlier this month. Iran, meanwhile, warned that its response could target Saudi oil refineries, data centers, and undersea internet cables.
