Pro-Palestinian Greek groups protested the arrival of the Israeli passenger ship Crown Iris at Piraeus port, near Athens.
The action, organized by the Greek Seamen’s Union (PENEN), was joined by left-wing political parties, associations, collectives and rights organizations.
Protesters unfurl banners accusing Israel
Demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and unfurled banners accusing Israel of committing genocide in Palestine. They also delivered messages supporting resistance in response to these accusations.
The crowd chanted, “You are not wanted in Piraeus or anywhere in our country.” Heavy police security measures were put in place in the area where Israeli passengers were expected to disembark from the ship.
Call on the Greek government to cut ties
The protest’s main organizer said the action was part of ongoing mobilization in solidarity with Palestine. The organizer also renewed the call for the Greek government to cut ties with Israel.
The statement said support for the Palestinian people “will continue and grow stronger until their victory.”
Crown Iris’s port visits in Greece
Visits by Crown Iris to various Greek ports since mid-2025 have been the subject of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel protests.
During these actions, demonstrators opposed Israel’s policies in Gaza and Greece’s close relations with Israel. Some protests also featured claims that off-duty soldiers were among the ship’s passengers.
