Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said the results of the U.S. midterm elections showed that Americans reject war, after the Democratic Party won control of both chambers of Congress.
Qalibaf said: “Whether out of conscience or because of the cost of living, Americans said no to war, and we support this message. If the U.S. government betrays the will of its people to serve international financiers and blackmailers, it will learn that our rejection comes with a nightmare.”

Trump, for his part, acknowledged in a phone interview with The Wall Street Journal that the war with Iran was “part of” the reasons for the Republicans’ poor performance, but defended the decision to launch the war and said he would make the same decision again. The newspaper reported that Trump believes rising oil and gasoline prices, rather than the war itself, were more politically damaging.
The Democrats had pledged to work to end the war with Iran. The AP Voter Poll showed that about two-thirds of voters believe Trump’s policies harmed the country’s economic conditions. The elections took place hours after new U.S. strikes on Iran, according to CBS News.
