Saudi authorities denied an online claim about a suicide bomber at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Security authorities said a person who disturbed those around him and caused fear and panic in the holy city had been detained. They added that legal proceedings had been initiated against the person immediately.
Authorities said the claims circulating online about the incident were untrue. The statement provided no further details about the detained person.

Earlier, claims had circulated online that a person allegedly wearing an explosive vest had approached the Kaaba and been arrested by security personnel.
Saudi Public Security said legal action had been taken against the detained person and the case referred to the public prosecution, adding that footage circulated as an attempted suicide attack at the Grand Mosque dated from 2017.
