Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi arrived in Seoul as part of a three-day state visit to South Korea. On the first leg of his Asia tour, Sisi will discuss regional developments as well as economic and international issues with President Lee Jae-myung.
Sisi’s plane landed at Seoul Air Base. The Egyptian presidency announced that the Asia tour would continue with visits to Malaysia and Indonesia after the South Korea leg.
Meeting with Lee to be held on Thursday
South Korea’s presidential office said the visit was taking place at the invitation of Lee Jae-myung and that the two leaders would meet on Thursday.
The talks are expected to focus on advancing economic cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure and supply chains. Expanding people-to-people exchanges will also be among the issues discussed.
South Korean presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said regional political developments and other international issues would also be on the leaders’ agenda.
Cairo and Seoul aim for a strategic partnership
Seoul views Sisi’s visit as an opportunity to transform relations between South Korea and Egypt into a strategic partnership and strengthen cooperation with Africa and the Middle East.
The visit is Sisi’s first to South Korea since 2016. Lee and Sisi last met in Cairo during the South Korean president’s visit to Egypt in November 2025.
South Korea and Egypt are working to expand cooperation in trade, investment and the defense industry while also strengthening cultural and educational ties.
