The Sudanese army announced it has taken control of the 'El-Bar' area in Blue Nile state, which it says belongs to the People's Movement/North. It also reported shooting down an enemy drone in North Darfur state.
The Sudanese army announced it has captured an area in the Blue Nile state in the southeast of the country, which it says belongs to the People's Movement/North.
In a written statement, the army said forces from the 13th Infantry Brigade conducted a wide-ranging sweep operation in the Kisan district and entered the 'El-Bar' area, securing control. The statement noted that various weapons and military equipment were seized during the operation and a number of individuals described as insurgents were captured.
Clashes in the region
The Sudanese army controls a large part of Blue Nile state on the Ethiopian border. The People's Movement/North has been fighting the Sudanese government since 2011, demanding autonomy in the South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
For nearly two months, violent clashes have been escalating in Blue Nile state between the army, the Rapid Support Forces, and the People's Movement/North. These clashes have displaced thousands of people from various parts of the state.
Drone shot down in North Darfur
In a separate development, the Sudanese army reported shooting down an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle in North Darfur state.
The army announced that its air defense systems shot down an FH-95 type drone north of the city of Tawisha on Tuesday morning. There has been no statement yet from the Rapid Support Forces or its ally, the People's Movement/North, regarding the incident.
The general situation in the country
The Rapid Support Forces hold control over the five Darfur states in western Sudan. The army maintains its dominance in most of the other states, including the capital, Khartoum.
The war that began in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has claimed tens of thousands of lives. The conflict has displaced more than 13 million people and, according to United Nations and international reports, led to one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
