U.S. President Donald Trump said the war with Iran will end “very soon,” adding: “As soon as I want it to end, it’ll end.”
Trump spoke to reporters on Oct. 14 during a campaign swing through Arizona and Montana ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. He also said Iran would never have a nuclear weapon and that oil prices would fall.
Earlier that day, at a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, Trump said, “I don’t know who we’re dealing with anymore. But that’s going to end very soon,” adding that gasoline prices would drop below their prewar levels once the war ends.
Predictions without a timeline
Trump gave no date for the end of the war, which began on Feb. 28 with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. He has made similar predictions before, telling Axios in March: “Any time I want it to end, it will end.”
At a rally in Alabama in early October, Trump said the war would end “probably right after the midterms.”

Claims about Iran’s military capacity
At the rally in Montana, Trump claimed that Iran no longer had a navy or an air force and that most of its military had been destroyed. “I should have at least left their leaders, because we don’t know who we’re negotiating with,” he said.
