US President Donald Trump issued a new threat against Iran, declaring that civilian infrastructure targets would be struck in retaliation for any ship attack in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump said, "Every time the Islamic Republic of Iran fires a missile, rocket, drone or any other weapon at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, the US will bomb and destroy A BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those in the capital Tehran."
Tensions that deteriorated after the temporary ceasefire agreement signed last month between the US and Iran have deepened the struggle for control in the Strait of Hormuz. The intensification of attacks between the parties is increasing the risk of a full-scale conflict in the region.
Some international law experts and world leaders criticized Trump's threat to target bridges and power plants. The criticism is that such threats violate international law rules that prohibit attacks on civilian targets.
