An explosive device left by ISIS detonated during a field inspection in Iraq's northern Kirkuk province, killing two Iraqi soldiers, including an officer.
Yahya Rasool Abdullah, spokesperson for Iraq's Ministry of Defense, announced that those killed were Brigadier General Ahat Yasser Khudair Hussein, head of the Communications Command of the 11th Infantry Division, and Non-Commissioned Officer Moataz Shaheed Abbas.

Blast occurred after airstrike
The incident took place on Wednesday during an inspection of the area following an airstrike targeting a shelter used by ISIS cells. The airstrike was carried out late Tuesday in the Zaghaitoun Valley in Kirkuk.
Iraq's Ministry of Defense announced that it would continue pursuing ISIS remnants.

ISIS cell attacks continue
The Baghdad administration declared victory over ISIS in December 2017 and announced that all areas the organization had controlled since 2014 had been retaken.
Despite this, ISIS cells continue to carry out sporadic attacks in Iraq.
