Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed Al Nahyan confirmed to Russian President Vladimir Putin that the United Arab Emirates was ready to host new talks on Ukraine. Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, said the negotiating platform proposed by Abu Dhabi was acceptable to Russia.
Speaking on Sunday, September 13, Ushakov said the United Arab Emirates was ready, as before, to host talks between the parties.
Territorial issue among matters awaiting a solution
Ushakov said the parties had yet to reach agreement on numerous issues concerning Ukraine, identifying the territorial question as one of the main issues. He said progress in this area could facilitate the resolution of other disputes.
The Russian official said the parties had many other issues to resolve in addition to the territorial question. Ushakov said reaching agreement on these issues could help advance peace efforts.
Talks with Putin and the US position
Ushakov said US representatives had begun to better understand Russia’s approach after several hours of talks with Vladimir Putin.
Ushakov also said the issue of Ukraine was one of the main topics of Putin’s bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in India, adding that it continued to have a prominent place on the agenda.
Kushner assesses the situation regarding Kyiv
Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, argued that Kyiv needed to agree to withdraw along the line set by Russia for the conflict to end.
Kushner said US mediators were continuing to seek a creative solution that took Kyiv’s position into account while also aligning with Moscow’s approach.
