U.S. Senator Cruz discussed Iran and Venezuela in an interview with NBC News.
Cruz calls for regime change in Iran
Cruz argued that the long-term goal in Iran was the collapse of the regime. He said he had repeatedly urged U.S. President Trump and his administration to arm protesters in the country so that the Iranian people could overthrow the government.
Describing the weakening of Iran’s military capacity as the United States’ primary objective, Cruz identified the overthrow of the government as the second goal.
Cruz emphasizes elections in Venezuela
Cruz claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was detained as a result of the U.S. military intervention on Jan. 3, was illegitimate and had come to power against the will of voters.
Cruz argued that free and fair elections should be held in Venezuela and said the U.S. administration was working toward that goal.
