US Vice President JD Vance said Washington’s Middle East policy should not be limited by the interests of the Israeli government.
Speaking on the All-In Podcast, published on YouTube, Vance discussed US-Israel relations and developments in the region. Vance said the United States does not share Israel’s position on every issue and argued that they had largely succeeded in destroying Iran’s nuclear program and conventional military capabilities.
Vance said Israel is an important partner for the United States in terms of military technology and intelligence sharing, but noted that the two countries do not hold the same views on some issues.
Vance also said that when Donald Trump believes the interests of the American people do not align with those of the Israeli government, he is more willing than any other US president in the past 40 years to disagree with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The US Vice President also said Washington has numerous important partnerships within the framework of NATO. However, Vance said US policy toward Europe is not shaped solely by NATO’s interests and that the same principle applies to its Middle East policy.
