Faiq Zidan, president of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, and Tom Barrack, the U.S. special presidential representative for Iraq, met in Baghdad to discuss expanding legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries.
The council said the two sides exchanged views on ways to strengthen legal and judicial ties between Iraq and the United States.
The meeting followed Barrack’s talks with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein in Istanbul two days earlier. Iraq’s Foreign Ministry said the Istanbul meeting addressed Iraq’s economic situation, the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar and regional conflicts affecting security and stability.

Judicial proceedings had also been discussed previously
Zidan and Barrack discussed judicial proceedings concerning detainees transferred from Syria to Iraq in February. The two met again in June. During that meeting, Barrack praised the role of Iraq’s judiciary in fulfilling constitutional requirements.
Coalition’s Iraq mission ends
The U.S.-led coalition’s mission in Iraq officially ended on September 30, approximately 12 years after it was established to fight ISIS.
The end of the coalition mission paved the way for relations between Baghdad and the coalition countries to shift toward bilateral cooperation.
