Parties to the conflict in Yemen
The coalition, led by Saudi Arabia since 2015, was formed to support the Yemeni government and fight the Houthis.

Since 2014, the Houthis have controlled Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, as well as parts of the country.
Tensions between the coalition and the Houthis
The missile incident, in which the projectile was said to have been headed for Riyadh, occurred as tensions between the Houthis and the coalition were escalating.
During this period, attacks targeting airports and energy facilities in Saudi Arabia also came to the fore.
