Government forces said they had shot down a Houthi unmanned aerial vehicle on the Kahbub front in Yemen’s southern Lahij province, amid clashes around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The statement said the “Rajum”-type UAV was struck before reaching its target. The incident took place in the Kahbub area, near the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Statement on the Houthi attack
Government forces had previously said they repelled an attack by the Houthis on the Kahbub front. They also claimed that the Houthis suffered heavy casualties and material losses during the attack.

Kahbub, administratively part of Lahij province, holds a strategic position because of its mountainous heights overlooking the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The strait is one of the important maritime transit routes for international trade.
The Houthis did not immediately respond to the government forces’ statement that the UAV had been shot down.
