President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will take the floor on Tuesday, the opening day of the high-level general debate at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Erdoğan will be the fourth speaker on the program. Brazil will speak first, followed by the host country, the United States; the speeches will continue after Jordan.
Gaza and Palestine on the agenda
Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, the need to recognize Palestine as a state and possible international measures against Israel are expected to feature prominently in Erdoğan’s address.
The speech will mark Erdoğan’s 16th participation in the United Nations General Assembly. During the general debate, the heads of state and government of member countries will present their priorities to the international community.
Erdoğan’s program in New York
During his visit to New York, Erdoğan will hold bilateral meetings with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and the heads of state and government of various countries. As part of his engagements in the United States, he will also attend various events.
Representatives of Turkish citizens living in the United States, as well as representatives of the Turkish-American business community and think tanks, will attend these events.
Erdoğan will also speak on Wednesday at the United Nations Secretary-General’s Climate Summit. The United Nations’ annual Climate Change Conference, COP31, is planned to take place in Antalya in November.
Brazil’s position as the first speaker at the General Assembly has continued since the United Nations General Assembly’s 10th session, except in 1983 and 1984.
