Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the Mecca Agreement signed on August 7, 2026, by Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia as an important milestone that strengthens joint deterrence and commitment to peace and regional stability.
He made the remarks in a speech as the guest of honor at a reception hosted by the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad to mark the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers and parliamentarians attended the event.

Call for an economic partnership matching political ties
Sharif called for an economic partnership commensurate with the political and strategic ties between the two countries. He recalled announcing in July, during the Pakistan-Türkiye Business Conference in Istanbul, the establishment of a special economic zone in Karachi named after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and urged Turkish investors to take advantage of Pakistan’s young population, strategic location and expanding opportunities.
Sharif congratulated President Erdoğan, the Turkish government and people, saying that Türkiye had become under his leadership an economic power, a leader in defense technology and one of the most generous countries in humanitarian aid. He recalled the support extended by Muslims of the Indian subcontinent to Türkiye during the War of Independence through the Khilafat Movement, and Türkiye’s reciprocal support during the 2005 earthquake and the 2010 floods.
Turkish ambassador: We are not only friends but brothers
For his part, Turkish Ambassador to Islamabad Irfan Nazir Oglu said: “When Pakistan suffers, Türkiye feels the pain, and when Türkiye faces difficulties, Pakistan stands by us.” He added that the two countries were not merely friends, but brothers linked by history, united by faith and connected by shared sacrifices.
Nazir Oglu described the Mecca defense agreement and the “Badr” memorandum of understanding as the latest milestones in the course of relations between the two countries.
