A 24-year-old Israeli was wounded in a stabbing near the village of al-Auja, close to Jericho in the northern West Bank. Israeli police said the injured person’s condition was moderate.
Medical teams provided first aid at the scene with support from a team affiliated with the Israeli army. The injured person was later taken to hospital.
Hamas calls attack a sign of resistance
Hamas claimed that the attack showed Palestinians were continuing their resistance in every part of the Palestinian territories despite Israel’s policies of repression and pursuit.
The movement described the attack as a response to what it said were attacks and crimes carried out by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and other parts of Palestine. Hamas said the person believed to have carried out the attack safely left the scene.
Hamas also called on Palestinians in the West Bank and inside Israel to resist Israeli forces and settlers.
Military operations continue in the West Bank
While Israeli military operations and arrests continue in the area, settler attacks against Palestinians and their property are also ongoing. Attacks targeting Israelis occur periodically in the West Bank.
