New footage has emerged of the attack on the compound in Doha where Hamas’s negotiating team was conducting indirect talks on a ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage exchange. The footage shows explosions, smoke rising from the area and security operations carried out after the attack.
Six people were killed and 18 were injured in the attack on September 9, 2025. Those killed included Jihad Labed, chief of staff to Khalil al-Hayya, head of the Hamas negotiating team; his son, Himam al-Hayya; three escorts; and Badr al-Humaidi, a member of Qatar’s internal security force, Lekhwiya.
Delegation members were not in the targeted building
The attack was carried out at approximately 3:46 p.m. local time through airstrikes targeting a building in the compound. The Hamas delegation was in another building near the structure that was targeted. As a result, the delegation members survived the attack.
The targeted residential complex was located in an area that included homes, schools and diplomatic missions. Hamas said the attack was an attempt to kill members of its negotiating team and that the attempt had failed.
Qatar activated its emergency response plan
Qatari security units activated emergency response plans after the attack. Members of the negotiating team were evacuated from the area and taken to secure locations.
The area was isolated as part of the security measures, while security, ambulance, civil defense and bomb disposal teams worked in coordination. Concealment measures and transfers to different secure locations were used to protect the delegation members.
At the time of the attack, the delegation was preparing to consider a U.S. proposal conveyed to it through Qatari mediation, with a response requested within approximately 48 hours. The incident occurred as Qatar was mediating ceasefire and hostage exchange talks between Hamas and Israel under the supervision of Egypt and the United States.
