Heavy rain triggers flooding in Al-Hawiyah, north of Saudi Arabia’s Taif

Heavy rain hit the Al-Hawiyah area north of Taif in Saudi Arabia’s Makkah region on Thursday, October 1, affecting neighborhoods including Sultana, Al-Dahas, Al-Faisaliyah, Rehab and Al-Arfa, and causing water to flow through ravines and valleys.

Footage from the area showed streets submerged by floodwater and vehicles struggling through the current. Saudi Civil Defense urged residents to stay in safe places and keep away from flood channels and valleys as thunderstorms continue across much of the kingdom, with Taif, Maysan, Adham and Al-Ardiyat expected to see moderate to heavy rain, hail and gusty winds.
