US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz during an unannounced visit to Israel on Oct. 19, The New York Times reported, citing two people briefed on the meetings who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The visit comes as President Donald Trump's administration has voiced growing frustration for weeks after diplomatic efforts failed to produce a lasting deal to end the war with Iran, and Trump has threatened new strikes.

Details of the talks between Hegseth and Israeli officials were not immediately clear, and Netanyahu's office did not respond to a request for comment. The visit came a day after Trump publicly endorsed Netanyahu, who is fighting for his political survival ahead of the Oct. 27 election.
The news site Axios was the first to report Hegseth's visit and his meeting with Netanyahu.
