Iran and Oman advance Strait of Hormuz talks despite US obstruction
An Iranian official said an agreement could be reached with Muscat on the Strait of Hormuz if US interference ends. The US Treasury Secretary also recently said a deal could be reached soon.
Negotiations between Iran and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz have reached a new phase despite Washington's obstruction efforts. A senior official speaking to Iran's state television Press TV confirmed this development.
The official said, "Tehran is actively fulfilling its obligations under the memorandum of understanding in coordination with Oman and regional countries." He also stated, "If the US stops its interference, Iran and Oman can reach a mutual understanding on the Strait of Hormuz."
The Iranian official stressed that the ongoing consultations with Oman are a demonstration of Tehran's commitment to diplomacy and its determination to protect its rights.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said that negotiations with Iran are continuing and that an agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz could be reached "today or tomorrow."
