Generators supplying electricity to vital departments at hospitals in Gaza face the risk of becoming inoperable and suffering permanent damage amid the ongoing fuel shortage. The Gaza Health Ministry said operating the machines with low fuel levels had placed the generators in a technically critical condition.
The ministry said that if the fuel runs out completely, the generators could be forced to stop. In such a case, the engines could burn out or the equipment could malfunction.
Urgent call to protect the generators
Engineers are monitoring the machines under severe technical conditions and trying to keep the generators running so that electricity can continue to be supplied to the hospitals' vital units.
Authorities warned that damage caused by the generators burning out could be permanent and that the machines might not be restarted. The ministry said the issue was no longer merely a shortage of fuel and called on all relevant organizations to take urgent action to prevent the remaining generators from malfunctioning as well.

Medical devices depend on electricity from generators
The Gaza Health Ministry announced a day earlier that the fuel needed to operate generators at hospitals in the Gaza Strip had run out.
At the small number of hospitals still operating in the Gaza Strip, medical devices in departments treating patients and the injured run on electricity generated by the generators. The fuel shortage therefore directly threatens the treatment of patients whose care depends on these devices.
Humanitarian aid, medicine and fuel have been restricted from entering Gaza, while schools and hospitals have also been targeted in attacks carried out since October 2023. During the same period, more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed, more than 175,000 have been injured and approximately 90 percent of the infrastructure has been destroyed.
