King Charles III delivered parts of his speech in Arabic during the state banquet he hosted at Windsor Castle for Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, as part of a three-day state visit described as the first of its kind in 44 years.
The king quoted the hadith narrated by Imam Muslim from Abu Barza al-Aslami: “Had you gone to the people of Oman, they would neither have insulted nor struck you,” referring to the generosity and good character of the Omani people. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said these words to a man he had sent to a tribe of the Arabs, whose members insulted and struck him.
Praise for Oman’s role in the Strait of Hormuz
King Charles, who is taking Arabic lessons, praised Oman’s natural beauty and recited lines of Arabic poetry. He also commended the “noble efforts” made by the Sultanate to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to shipping. A video showing the king reading the hadith in Arabic spread widely on social media.
